Today, I went to my first Zentangle class. It was called Basic Zentangle, and I loved it! The instructor, Aleesha Sattva, is a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT). The class was in her very Zen condo in Burnaby. There were two other ladies in the class. We each received a basics kit to use and take home. The kit included White Zentangle Tiles, a Sakura Pigma Micron 01 black pen, a soft-leaded pencil, and a tortillion. I also bought extra White Zentangle Tiles, a binder with special pages to hold my tiles, and a Sakura Apprentice Pen (for colouring in my tangles).
Aleesha is an amazing instructor. We started the class with a guided meditation, and by the end of the mediation, it felt like my body and specifically hands were full creative energy! Aleesha guided us through the Zentangle method using a large sketchbook and sharpie, as we followed along on our White Zentangle Tiles.
At first, I found it difficult to not press too hard with my pen. I have always pressed hard with my pens (hence the permanent indent on my right finger),Aleesha suggested I hold something in my left hand while I'm tangling to lessen the need to push so hard with my right hand, and it worked!
I left the Basic Zentangle class feeling so excited and inspired! I am 100% sure I could not have found the creative energy or learned all the little gems of information in class from any online/google search. I can't wait for the next class...Beyond the Basics!
