I can not think of a better way to spend the first day of October then with Momma Deb at a Zentangle class, taught by the wonderful Jerryann Haggart, in beautiful Parksville, BC.
In this autumn themed workshop, we started by searching for "found poetry" on pages from a book called "Leaves of Gold". Using a Clear Sakura Glaze 3D Glossy pen, we selected words and phrases that "spoke" to us. Next, we selected various leaves Jerryann had collected and shared with us. We arranged the leaves on our pages and traced them in pencil.
Next, we used twinkling H2Os and leaves to practice three techniques on our Zentangle tiles. For the first technique, we placed a leaf on a tile and painted over the leaf to create a negative space shaped like a leaf. For the second technique, we placed a leaf on a tile and with a clean brush, brushed water over the leaf onto the tile. This created a negative space shaped like a leaf as well. Next, we dabbed touches of colour (Twinkling H20s) onto the wet surface and let them do their magic. The final technique we practiced was painting a leaf with Twinkling H20s and pressing it onto a tile.
After some time practicing the three techniques on Zentangle times, we began adding colour to our "found poetry" pages.
While waiting for our "found poetry" pages to dry, we learned four tangles. These tangles included Indyrella with Printemps, Zenplosion, Florz with Fescue, and Finery.
Using a Gelly Roll Gold pen, we practiced these and other tangles on our leaves.
Once our "found poetry" pages were dry, we began tangling on them. I was pretty pleased with how mine turned out. I was a little disappointed that my "found poetry" did not show up as well as I had expected. Next time, I would make a squares around my words instead of just tracing the letters. The words I chose were, happy, ambition, passion and wiser. Also, next time, I would make sure my leaves covered all my "found poetry" completely.
One of my favourite things about taking a class is how different each persons' creativity and talent is showcased.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Parksville. It was nice to spend time with Momma Deb and tangle with some of the wonderful ladies I had met many months ago at Tangle Island. I really look forward to the next time we can all tangle together again! Until then, Happy Tangling!
